Fabrication & Delivery of Large Fuel Tanks

Point Thomson Background Information:

Point Thomson is a natural gas and condensate field located 60 miles East of Prudhoe Bay on the North Slope of Alaska. It holds an estimated 8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas – about 25 percent of the North Slope’s proven gas resources – and about 200 million barrels of condensate. In addition to ExxonMobil, other major Point Thomson owners include BP Exploration (Alaska), Inc., Chevron USA Inc., and ConocoPhillips Alaska, Inc.

Work Scope:

Contracting and managing the logistics in support of 2009 & 2010 Point Thomson Project drilling activities including ice roads, tundra trails, remote sleigh camps, air travel, rollagons/steigers for tundra travel and resupply, camp billeting at multiple locations, purchasing, tracking, receiving, warehousing, issuing of materials and supplies, environmental water sampling, construction contracts, quality control, cost & scheduling, document control, inventory tracking, fuel purchasing, planning, permit support and overall execution management. 


 Procured, transported, and installed:

  • Over-13,000 insulated panels
  • Over 1,800 rig mats measuring 9’ x 30’
  • 30-each 400bbl fuel tanks (temporary) and filled them with diesel within 30-days.
  • Contracted for and oversaw the conceptual, preliminary and detailed design, manufacture, quality control, shipping and installation of the tank farm for 8-each 4,880bbl fuel tanks (constructed and transported from Northwestern Washington fabrication site to the North Slope 99 days after the purchase order was let) with all code required containments, walkways and piping systems.
  • Managed the charging of the tank farm with 1.5 million gallons of ultra low sulfur diesel fuel, this effort occurring over a two month period with no recordable spills.

 Contracted for and managed:

  • Construction of over 50-miles of ice road during the 2009 and 2010 winter season.
  • Construction of the 85’ x 165’ Titan warehouse and Legend Series warehouse.
  • 240-barge loads of freight, cargo, equipment, drilling supplies, water and fuel, since the start of the project.

Other services:

  • Managed over 1,400-helicopter flights of personnel, cargo, and sling loads totaling over 440,000 lbs., since the start of the project.
  • Provide equipment tracking and leasing.
